Abstract: This research explored the prospect of introducing coding to 8- and 9-year old pupils in a classroom context. Following a review of the literature available, four lesson plans were prepared which focused on different subject areas. These lessons were then delivered by two teachers to each of their respective groups of children. The two classes used a different programming language to create artefacts during the lessons. Therefore through this study I wanted to find out how coding can be introduced in a local primary classroom using a cross-curricular approach. The methodology used involves analysing the artefacts created by the children. Furthermore, I opted to carry out interviews with both class teachers after each of the lessons which provided me with a more detailed understanding of teachers' perspective about the subject. The results from this research have shown that using the right pedagogy and the right apps/software and devices, children can get a good grasp of coding. This could be further enhanced if educators are given the adequate support and training as necessary.
