Abstract: In our approach to contemporary culture, we need a new pedagogy of the faith. Perhaps we need to revisit the De Catechizandis Rudibus of St. Augustine because the transmission of the faith falls short unless it is not autobiographical. As Paul VI said, we need more witnesses than teachers … If the parish does not embark today on this new pedagogy, on the true transmission of the faith, it remains simply a structure, an institution, a service station that fails to help people meet God. It continues to make Christians but not disciples.
Theologian René Camilleri expressed these words in April 2023, at a conference which took place just days before the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the end of the Covid-19 pandemic as a global health emergency. Why is this detail meaningful in the context of parish catechesis?
