Abstract: In his 1970 study, Van Rensselaer Potter referred to bioethics as the Science of Survival: “Mankind is urgently in need of new wisdom that will provide the ‘knowledge of how to use knowledge’ for man’s survival and for improvement in the quality of life.” Although Fritz Jahr had previously used the term “bioethics,” it was with the above study that bioethics entered academic discourse.
