Faculty of Laws Newsletter : June 2026 : issue 41

Abstract

This newsletter reports on recent scholarly, educational, international, and public engagement activities of the Faculty of Laws at the University of Malta. It highlights the publication and promotion of the first edition of the Malta Journal of Legal Studies, including opportunities for double-blind peer-reviewed contributions and the planned production of printed copies. The newsletter also announces the updating of study-unit reading lists, a public lecture at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies on the European Union, citizenship, and the right to good administration, and a research visit by a PhD student from the University of Catania on the constitutional protection of the environment. Further activities include the launch of a publication on the legislative and constitutional development of the Maltese language, the establishment of a programme on the Common Heritage of Humankind, participation in a student-led law reform policy event, and a conference on fundamental rights in the age of artificial intelligence. Collectively, these activities demonstrate the Faculty's engagement with legal scholarship, postgraduate research, international collaboration, public legal education, student participation, environmental and international law, and emerging challenges posed by artificial intelligence.
