Faculty of Laws Newsletter : July 2026 : issue 42

Abstract

This newsletter reports on recent developments in assessment practices, international legal engagement, academic administration, and scholarly activities at the Faculty of Laws. It discusses efforts to improve the efficiency of examination and assessment processes through the adoption of digital technologies, including Wiseflow, and the potential use of multiple-choice and true-or-false assessments where pedagogically appropriate. The newsletter also highlights the judicial work of Judge Professor David J. Attard as President of the Seabed Disputes Chamber of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in proceedings involving Tonga Offshore Mining Ltd. and the International Seabed Authority. Further activities include participation in a SEA-EU Alliance symposium in Gdańsk concerning the administration of joint Master's programmes, with particular attention to international collaboration, student mobility, visa procedures, and administrative practice. The newsletter additionally reports on participation by Faculty academics in the ICON-S Annual Conference in Dublin, where papers addressed biometric border controls, proportionality, the digital state, and the protection of citizens by the European courts. Collectively, these activities demonstrate the Faculty's engagement with educational innovation, international legal institutions, transnational academic cooperation, public law, technology, and contemporary challenges to rights and governance.
