| Abstract: | Demographic shifts have created increasing diversity in housing needs in Malta, necessitating a re-evaluation of existing housing policy. The aim of this study is to provide a comprehensive, evidence-based assessment of how diverse people in Malta experience their housing conditions with a view to informing such policy. The study also aims to establish a baseline to understand how such experiences continue to evolve over time. The study asks: 1. What kind of dwellings and neighbourhoods do different cohorts of the population live in? 2. How satisfied are they with these living conditions, and what problems do they perceive? 3. What are their intentions with regard to relocation? 4. To what extent are people aware and satisfied with existing housing schemes? Data for the study were collected using a bespoke questionnaire designed by the authors. A representative sample of approximately 800 respondents residing in Malta (including both Maltese nationals and foreign residents) was recruited to provide responses, which were statistically analysed to generate the insights reported. |
