| Abstract: | In this article, I look at maritime security from a sociological perspective. For Malta, maritime security is about much more than protecting shipping routes and critical infrastructure. It also concerns seafarers and other maritime workers, migrants, coastal communities, commuters, environmental risks, social equity and blue justice. I argue that Malta should continue pushing for stronger European, Mediterranean and global cooperation, while also making the case for sustainable maritime security—combining economic resilience and connectivity with environmental protection and, crucially, people-centred considerations. |
