Abstract

The contribution delves into the figure and activity in Malta of the French military eingineer Médéric Blondel, brother of the better-known François, in the service of ‘Grand Master’ Gregorio Carafa in the late seventeenth century. To him we owe, in particular, the strengthening of the archipelago's fortifications with the decisive contribution of Carlos de Grunenbergh, but it is above all with the civil and religious buildings that he was able to offer a new lease of life to local architecture.
