Abstract: This study aims at analysing a number of volumes stored in the Notarial Archives. These volumes are mostly Indexes by Notaries. The focus was on the decorated paper as covers for these volumes. Research was carried out through visits to the archives as well as consultation of relevant literature. The main types of paper design were identified. The most popular technique which emerged was the marbling technique. This seems to be favoured over the paste and wood-block printing technique. The various types of marbled papers were presented in this study. They span from the 19th towards the middle of the 20th centuries. Although the marbling technique was the most expensive to produce the result of this study seem to suggest that is was the most popular most probably for aesthetic reasons.
