The case of record documentation disposal of works department files

Abstract

The prime scope of this long essay is an assessment of the records created over the years by the Works Department. The work starts by defining the key words forming the title of this research and secondly to identify some of the broader parameters likely to be relevant in studying the introduction of a Retention and Disposal Schedule for the Works Department. In terms of primary data sources, all interviews will be based on a semi-structured format. Firstly, interviews were held with personnel within the Registry Section of the Works Department who are directly involved in the running of the section. This had the scope to gather data on the management of these files in order to enlighten better the researcher on the subject of Retention and Disposal Schedules. Secondly, the National Archivist and his personnel were also consulted to identify the logistical importance of the Retention and Disposal Schedule and thus ensure that all records are retained or disposed accordingly and to inform further on the objectives of the research. At the end of this analysis, the expected outcome is a report of records to be transferred to the National Archives.
