| Abstract: | The concept of Collection Development Policy (CDP), in particular with public libraries in Malta is not common. The author aims to bring librarians aware of CDPs. In fact, in this study, the author investigated the actual situation of the Central Public Library (CPL) in Floriana with regards to the CDP. This could be possible by gathering primary data from the Deputy Librarian (DL) and the library users themselves. The researcher interviews the DL and carries out questionnaires with the users. In this way, the author can have a clear idea and perspective from the library stakeholders. The DL gives a clear picture of the situation and future plans. From the questionnaires, it seems that the users have different opinions about the CPL's collection. The results of the questionnaires are presented in tables. Manchester Public Library and Biblioteca Salabrosa's CDP are compared and contrasted so that a model can be established and then a draft CDP for the CPL is developed. It is concluded that financial constraints cannot be an excuse for not developing a CDP, in fact, it is felt necessary to develop a formal CDP. |
