In recent years, Malta has become one of Europe's most popular film and television locations - dubbed "the Mediterranean's mini-Hollywood" by a CNN journalist! The Maltese Islands - Malta, Gozo and Comino have been home to Hollywood blockbusters such as Gladiator, U-571, The Count of Monte Cristo, Troy, Munich any many more. Our film industry dates back to 1925 when Malta was used a film location for the very first time. The islands' beautiful, unspoiled coastlines and breathtaking architecture have ‘doubled' for an amazing variety of locations on the big and small screens - from ancient Rome to 19th-century Marseille and 1960's Beirut. Steven Spielberg, Ridley Scott, Wolfgang Petersen, and other renowned directors, as well as a host of A-list celebrities such as Russell Crowe, Brad Pitt, and Jim Caviezel to mention a few, all experienced Malta's movie making facilities and its many charms. Through many years of filming, Malta has already taken care of the necessary infrastructure. The Mediterranean Film Studios offer the largest artificial tanks in the Mediterranean, and several high-caliber film directors have availed themselves of Malta's unique provisions. The series takes its viewers behind the scenes of various films shot around the Maltese Islands, through a series of interviews by main key-players in the field. It is also a nostalgic journey around our small island that developed and changed during the years.en_GB
