Abstract: In this paper, I focus on state sponsored adult literacy education, in Malta, this century. The first section of the paper will deal with the pre- and post -World War 11 adult literacy efforts. The second section will consist of an analytic review of the current adult literacy campaign launched by Malta's Education Department in January, 1990.
