Abstract: The results of a floristic study of benthic marine macroalgae from the Maltese Islands (Mediterranean Sea) are presented. The list of taxa at specific and infraspecific level consists of 150 Rhodophyceae, 45 Fucophyceae and 28 Chlorophyceae. Of these 223 taxa, 133 are newly reported from the Maltese Islands. Data on reproductive phenology of each species are given. Some phytogeographic considerations are also presented.
