| Abstract: | Colour is often taken for granted, and although we consider it to be quite straightforward in appreciation, in actual fact it can be quite a complex subject. While watching a film, colours are appreciated from an aesthetic point of view but we stop short of thinking beyond, such as their influence on the perception of the story being told. This dissertation takes a deeper look into how a colour palette is chosen and applied during the stages of producing a film. Several case studies will be analysed to strengthen the understanding of effective use of colour. A short film will be produced in order to test the implications of colour upon audience perception. |
