Abstract: Positioning Technologies have been getting plenty of attention as mobile devices have become more accessible and capable. While Global Positioning System (GPS) has been established as a standard for outdoor positioning, indoor positioning systems technologies remain quite scattered. With the recent widespread adoption of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), a number of solutions for energy efficient and cost-effective indoor positioning have entered the market. This study aims to take advantage of an Indoor Positioning System to track a user’s position in an indoor space while at a conference. We will demonstrate how an application with Gamified aspects can be used to increase the attendee’s engagement at conferences. We will investigate the technologies that are currently available for indoor positioning and adopting the solution which is most practical to conferences. We will also explore how gamification has been used in different scenarios and how it can be effectively tailored to attendees of a conference.
