Abstract: Many consider Great Expectations to be Dickens' masterpiece. It is superbly funny, psychologically very penetrating, thematically perfect and morally sound. The novel may be regarded as an indictment of Victorian society at large for its complacency, adherence to false values and its obsession with material wealth.
