Abstract: The reason behind this research is to explore and create artworks catered for a broader sector, by including the blind and the visually impaired. Although they have been slightly included in Malta, limitations are still very evident. In this project, the researcher has explored the pros and cons of certain artwork styles and materials such as 3D design, 3D printing and hand-moulded sculptures. The theme of the project is human interaction by focusing on different hand gestures we use subconsciously every day. This also connects to the fact that focus group research proved touch as the mostly used sense. The final artwork is made of different hand gestures which will be left for the research participants to explore at the exhibition opening. Throughout this whole process, the researcher came to the conclusion that artworks can be made with visuals and tactility on an equal level and it would work well with both sectors. This study examines the role of artworks and the understanding projected to the receiver. This project aims to investigate history and theories related to understanding art’s function as a server of information and expression. Also to analyse the history of braille and hand gestures within relation to interpreting the artwork. The researcher aimed to understand how to better create an artwork that equally transmits the same understanding to those who are sighted and also to the visually impaired and blind.
