Abstract: This study investigates the similarities between the practice and artistic vision of Andy Warhol and board game design. The results of this investigation are used to design a prototype of a new game which re-appropriates and highlights the defining characteristics of the Pop Art genre. This project evolves around the exploration of the 1960s Pop Art genre and one of its key artists, Andy Warhol. By using board games, a popular and modern product, as an artistic tool, the relevance of the movement is being researched. Furthermore, the connection and importance in the present day between the artistic practice, fun, aesthetics and board game design is being explored. The physical product presents a board game, designed according to the Eurogame genre, adopting Andy Warhol’s ‘The Factory’ as a theme. Different prototypes were created and tested with board game designers and experts. It is premised that a study on Warhol’s Factory process, using silkscreens and assistants, applies the right mechanics related to the theme. Although in game design, the visuals are not a priority, this project gives the art dimension priority. Thus, game design resulting from this study is to be considered as a prototype, not a finished product. This would require further developments with regards to testing, design and marketing, all of which are beyond the scope of this study.
