Evangelii Gaudium in the light of Vatican Council II

Abstract

Vatican Council II is considered as the greatest event of the 20th century for Christianity. On the eve of the 50th anniversary of its conclusion, Pope Francis with his first apostolic exhortation in 2013, was seeking to concretise in the pastoral practice of the Roman Catholic Church, the teaching, theology and recommendations of the Council that revolutionized the understanding of being Church. Through this thesis I hope to shade more light into the continuity between Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio pastoral approach as bishop of Buenos Aires in his native Argentina and the pastoral direction he is giving to the Roman Catholic Church as Pope Francis, the bishop of Rome.
