Abstract: The presented study explored the narratives of six gay individuals, aged between 18-30, and their experiences with coming out, in an attempt to answer the above research question. Their coming out process was examined using semistructured interviews through interpretative phenomenological analysis, where any challenges related to such a process were identified. As challenging as it may be, coming out is regarded as a central component and process, especially when it comes to the formation of a sturdy sexual identity (Mclean, 2007) . In addition, this research reviewed similar literature outlining comparable results in this area of interest, and examined how those results or perspectives differed from the presented work. Emerging results revolved mainly around notions of masculinities, heteronormative ideas in our society, as well as the impact of the media and its portrayal of homosexuality.
