Abstract: In a similar anniversary publication 10 years ago, we said the newspaper as a prime means of communication was still alive and kicking. Alive it may still be, but it is certainly not kicking in the same way it did in the past. Changing its role, making it more a platform for analysis and interpretation rather than just a conveyer of news, which is now available all the time on the web and on 24-hour news networks, may help extend its life. However, with the kind of dramatic changes taking place in communications today, it is difficult to make predictions about the future media landscape. The fact is that many keep migrating from print to digital at a rate undreamt of up to only a few years ago. Just as the typewriter may seem to be an odd machine to today's generation, so will the newspaper to up coming generations. The Times of Malta is going through these exciting times with the same kind of enthusiasm that nourished its growth over the past 80 years. Through its website, it has embraced the social media, a subject that is well tackled in this anniversary magazine.
