Abstract: In the 1950s, Malta was still a British colony and, as a result, the national anthem that was played was “God Save the Queen” although Malta did already have a national anthem, one that was first played in 1922. While the English tolerated the anthem being played, they didn’t give it the appropriate importance since it was never played during governmental functions. George Borg Olivier fought relentlessly for the appropriate recognition to be given to the Maltese National anthem and after 15 years, he accomplished this goal.
