Abstract: This paper reviews the use of Methadone, Clonidine and Naltrexone, medication widely employed in the treatment of substance abuse. Research from abroad, together with the authors' experiences has led to the identification of specific indicators for the use of Naltrexone as an adjunct to a more comprehensive treatment programme. These indicators are outlined and the treatment phases explored.
