Abstract: A cross-sectional survey was undertaken among a particular section of the Maltese Elderly Population - that in Church and State homes (excluding large homes admitting sick elderly) -who are often selectively admitted on the basis of independent living, in terms of activities of daily living. A questionnaire was administered to carers of elderly persons in these homes to quantify the consumption of therapeutic drugs in this population, as well as to study the influence of a number of factors on the prevalence of drug consumption.
Description: I wish to thank Dr Grech, the Director of INIA, for supporting the survey. Thanks also go to other INIA staff members especially Ms. Vella and Ms. Scicluna. I would like to express my appreciation to the authorities governing participating homes and to the carers who filled in these questionnaires for their unlimited patience and excellent work.
