Abstract: Carlo Gimach was a Maltese painter of Syrian ancestry. He is not to be confused with a painter of a similar name Carlo Zimech, even though sometimes they are referred to as one person. Apart from painting, Gimach was also a writer and an architect. He is best known as the painter of the old titular painting of the Immaculate Conception, now found in the sacristy of the Collegiate Church in Cospicua.
