dc.description.abstractBusuttil gives a historical background of the relationship between pirates and Malta while also analysing the background of the second Punic War. He states that, by the second century B.C., piracy was a well-established phenomenon and the Maltese islands hosted several pirate ships in exchange for the pirates’ mercy. This agreement was also in place within the island of Lipari which lies to the north of Sicily.en_GB
