Abstract: This document contains a close look at the controversy that plagued the Cathedral of St. John for centuries regarding its true proprietor. Both the Catholic Church and the various governing bodies which ruled Malta claimed ownership of the cathedral, however, the disputes were left untied. Buhagiar states that the church is no longer interested in property rights as its primary concern is the continued use for liturgical purposes.
