Abstract: Certainly one of the most striking aspects of the Maltese archaeology of the Roman period is the comparatively large number of villas, or rural houses, distributed in different areas of the two major islands of the Maltese archipelago. Already twenty-two sites have been recorded, their state of preservation ranging from just a few foundation wall s to full-seal e building complexes.
