Abstract: Music production in this study refers the act of composing music through the use of computer-based programs. This study explores the experience of individuals aged 20-37 who engage in such practises. Through this research, the way music production is experienced in different stages of the creative process is also explored. This study will also highlight various challenges that independent music producers face. Interviews were transcribed and analysed using IPA (Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis) to explore in depth the experience of these individuals. This research highlights how music production is a satisfactory and fulfilling practise and that is mostly practised in solitude. Independent music producers who took part in this study feel that their music creations reflect their past experiences and personality. According to this research, this practise also includes several challenges which could lead to frustration. Lastly, this research emphasises how such practises lead to a positive impact on one’s well-being. This dissertation also includes recommendations for future research.
