Abstract: | The aim of this study was to investigate the experiences of mature students with reference to stress and studying. This research explored how they personally viewed their experience of being a mature student at the University of Malta (UoM) or at the Malta College of Arts (MCAST). Five mature students who were required to be studying at the UoM or MCAST were recruited. Three participants were UoM students and the other two participants studied at MCAST. Following in-depth interviews, verbatim transcripts were analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) and three over arching themes where generated. The Findings suggest that although participants were studying different topics, their experiences were very similar. The participants perceived their experience as positive and were grateful for the opportunity. However, the majority of the participants juggled many responsibilities yet felt supported by their family members. The need for financial support was highlighted by the majority of the participants who claimed that being more financially supported would mean less stress for them while studying. |
