Abstract: The wheel has turned a full circle with regard to the place of anticoagulants therapy in the treatment of recent myocardial infarction. Initially therapeutic enthusiasts claimed a marked reduction in the morbidity and mortality rates, especially from thromboemolism with the result that the use of anticoagulants became widespread throughout the world. With the passage of time enthusiasm had (begun to wane; but recent therapeutic trials especially one by the Medical Research Council (M.R.C.) in 1959 has again aquired to a certain degree a prominent place for anticoagulants in the treatment of myocardial infarction.
