Abstract: The geology and stratigraphy of the Maltese Islands is short and comparatively simple. The most outstanding fact is the complete absence of any igneous rocks, effusive and intrusive alike, which is surprising as Malta, practically in all directions, is surrounded by isolated volcanoes of recent age or even still active.
