Abstract: In this review of music since the start of the season in October, 1952, it is not my intention to catalogue musical events in their order of importance. I propose rather to give a survey of the general trend of musical activities in Malta which have ranged from first class performances by international celebrities to third rate recitals by meretricious amateurs. During the year under review there has been a total absence of symphonic music; in fact the last time. that this type of music was heard was at the concert given at the Manoel Theatre on January 11th, 1951, in honour of the present Queen, under the auspices of the British Council. Large orchestras have now become prohibitive in cost, and this in turn reflects on public taste, which since :the time of the Grand Masters, has favoured opera above all other forms of music
