Sociology of the Maltese Islands

The main aim of this book is to provide a broad sociological introduction to various areas of Maltese society currently featuring in public and scholarly debate and research. This task had already been carried out in previous books edited by Ronald Sultana and Godfrey Baldacchino (1994) and JosAnn Cutajar and George Cassar (2009, 2004) respectively. Our aim is not to revise or replace these texts, but rather to complement them with an updated reader in the field. This book may be of interest to a wide range of students, including undergraduates, students at postsecondary level, as well those carrying out research at postgraduate level. Sociology students should be directly interested in the text, but it may be equally useful to students of other social sciences, humanities and different disciplines. Researchers, policy makers, politicians, journalists, activists and the general public may find this book useful for the provision and scholarly review of data and debates on key issues, areas and concepts relevant to contemporary Maltese society.
