Abstract: The aim of this dissertation will be to analyse George Orwell's works, particularly from the 1930s onwards, and review their political and literary qualities within the context of his age. The main focus will be on the development of his ideological outlook and his representation of the socio-political situation of his time through his later literary works: Homage to Catalonia, Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four. With this in mind, the chapters will follow the sequence in which he published these books to follow the development of his political outlook. Chapter 1 will deal primarily with Homage to Catalonia, his autobiographical commentary on the Spanish Civil War, and his exposure of the socio-political situation, which is then reflected in his novels Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four, which will be analysed in Chapters 2 and 3, respectively.
