Abstract: The objective of this study was to determine whether there is an underlying link between one’s health literacy and the patterns of use of antibiotics. The study focused on antibiotic consumption, patients’ behaviour towards antibiotics, and their health literacy in relation to the use of antibiotics. The study also explored the doctor-patient dynamics within the context of antibiotic prescription. A quantitative research design was used by administering an online survey which consisted of both closed and openended questions. The target population included Maltese citizens, currently residing in Malta. The sampling frame consisted of members of the SALOTT page on Facebook, and contacts within my own personal Facebook network, thus, a convenience sample was used. From the online survey, 247 responses were gathered. The data that emerged from the online survey was analysed using SPSS. Findings show that there is a significant link between health literacy and the misuse of antibiotics.
