| Abstract: | Recent decades have shown an accumulation of support for right-wing parties, both on the local and European level. Certain right-wing parties may differ in terms of values and policy however the common theme in right-wing groups is the priority that they give to that which is “native”. Nativism is the idea that states ought to be exclusively inhabited by their respective “native groups” (Mudde, 2007). Through triangulation of psycho-social theory, existing data on a European level, as well as local research on the Maltese scenario, this study provides an insight into the support for far-right groups whilst focusing on the younger generation. This study’s analysis arrives at overarching themes through the data on an interpersonal level with regards to what draws one to the radical right. The qualitative analysis undertaken reveals some of the most prominent factors that are associated with the relationship between right-wing movements, the electorate and youth. Therefore, through this study, one can obtain an insight into the most prominent factors and theories (such as that of instrumental model of conflict) (M.Sherif & C.W Sherif, 1953) that are contributing towards the growth of the far-right. |
