| Abstract: | As globalization continues to reshape the way we think and communicate with each other from various parts of the world, it continues to contribute to an ever-growing global phenomenon that we tend to either advocate for or against; which is migration. Given that conflict is inevitable, so does migration (more precisely mass migration), especially in the context of the 21st century. Since the recurrence of right-winged populism began to take shape within Europe, it sought to push for nationalistic, xenophobic, Islamophobic, and racist rhetoric aimed at “scape-goating” vulnerable people (primarily non-European migrants). With the recent 2015 Refugee Crisis (which had initially taken Europe by storm), it had triggered the European Commission to resecuritize all of its migration policy. However, given that there seemed to be a lack of cooperation amongst majority of EU leaders to agree and comply to the broader policy framework, this thesis research will aim at identifying and assessing the extent to which the selective components of the EU migration policy could potentially impact on civil society (primarily local NGOs) in the realm of migration and integration. Furthermore, in order to be able to identify this potential correlation, the academic scholarships that this research that intends to review will reflect on the various thematic concepts revolving on securitization of EU migration policy, active role and obligation of civil society, and domestic asylum laws within Hungary and Malta. |
