Abstract: | Digital technology has permeated all spheres of life, including education. The latest technological improvement that took place in all primary schools of Malta and Gozo was the introduction of Tablet PCs (TPCs). This research analysed the perceptions of Year 4 teachers and their respective students from one school in Gozo with regard to TPC use in formal learning situations, after one year of contextual use. Understanding the perceptions of teachers and students was important. This study indicated how this new technology was being adopted and implemented in class, suggesting ways in which learning with tablet technology could be further appropriated and accommodated to suit the needs and wants of both teachers and students. Observed satisfaction through application and performance expectancy showed that TPC use in formal learning contexts was well-embraced. However, barriers to TPC integration were still present, pointing towards the need for further technical and pedagogical support in order to optimise technology use, thereby guaranteeing children‟s academic growth. |
