Abstract: The following dissertation, is structured as follows: The first chapter is the definition and purpose of the prophets, in the Old Testament, which is an important theme throughout this work. This leads to the next chapter which is dedicated to the female prophets, whose roles were so outstanding, that their names still linger today, thousands of years later. The Third and main chapter, brings us to the protagonist of this opus, Numbers 12: 1, 2. (New Jerusalem Bible). The challenge with which Miriam defied her brother Moses. Was she right or wrong? Were her intentions honorable, or selfish, and out of jealousy? Why was she the only one punished, when both she and Aaron faced Moses? The concluding chapter deals with today`s world view of the role of women. With the new breath of air in the church in our day, have women broken the masculine dominance in certain sectors? Areas which have been taboo for females, and under male supremacy since the patriarchal age.
