Abstract: This dissertation sets out to see how the use of blockchain technology in land registration systems will further protect the rights of the title holder. Traditional land registration systems are not perfect in themselves. By using a blockchain-based land registration system countries can address limitations which are present in their current land registration systems and may strive to further guarantee the title holder’s rights. However, the author realises that adopting blockchain technology on its own is not the answer, seeing that changes in legislation are also to be made to come ever closer in reaching title certainty. Thus, solutions are proposed, with particular reference to the Maltese land registration system. Ultimately, should a blockchain based registration system be adopted, along with having effected the proposed changes reflected upon in the last chapter of this dissertation, a precise and complete land registration system will emerge, whereby one’s rights would be accurately safeguarded.
