Abstract: Possibly the oldest historical memories are at the moment being destroyed under our very eyes. The caves at Ghar Ilma (limits of Sta Lucia) are reputed to be the oldest troglodytic caves in Malta. And yet, quarrying goes on unrestrained and untrammelled, destroying everything in its path as if no one cares one way or another. Already a number of caves of immense historic value have been destroyed.
