Abstract: On Wednesday 28th May 1997 the first meeting of Poetry on Gozo was held at Dverna Tal-Mewta in Victoria Gozo, gathering about 45 people: audience and poets alike. It was the result of an idea following poetry readings in different languages at a local art exhibition, just one month before. Mariella Cassar, Rob Ricards and the author of this contribution founded "Poetry on Gozo" as a Gozitan podium for poets to read their work to an interested audience. After the first meeting Margaret and Brian Crocker joined the team of organisers as plans for a regular publication needed extra help. During three years, as caring parents, the team of organisers -slightly changed by now as some of them had other obligations- created the best environment in which Poetry on Gozo could grow and develop.
