Abstract: This paper develops the theme of philosophy as a way of life by reading the Phaedrus utilizing the communicative practices – the forms and media - of the philosophy of communication. It will be shown that the various forms (rhetorical, mythical and dialectical) and media (spoken and written) of communication in the text are intimately interwoven with a certain conception of philosophy as a way of life dedicated to the search for truth. In the Phaedrus, Plato teaches us the ideal form of communication for the pursuit of philosophy.
