Abstract: Sport makes part of the lives of many people, who are effected by the phenomenon in different ways; sport is practiced at amateur and recreational level, at professional level, whilst a greater percentage take a less active role, following some sports activity as spectators or supporters. Sport being so diffused has many legal implications, which are often taken for granted and thus not appreciated. The aim of this dissertation is to highlight the relationship between sport and the Law. This Dissertation will be divided into four chapters: 1. International co operation in the promotion of Sport. Sport has many positive effects on the lives of those who practice it, thus a lot of work is done at international level, to promote and diffuse sport. This chapter will discuss the work and role of the key players in this field. Although there are other organisations committed to this mission only the work of the most prominent will be discussed. This chapter tackles in particular sport at amateur and recreational level. 2. Sport And the European Union. Sport at professional level in many cases makes part of the Entertainment business and thus the ordinary law applies where a particular sporting activity is in effect an ordinary economic activity. In this chapter the relationship between sport and European Union legislation will be analysed. 3. Sport Regulation. Sport is regulated at both international and also national level. In this chapter the organisation and regulation of sport at both levels, will be discussed. 4. Sport and Doping. Doping is a problem which is presently tainting the image and integrity of sport. This chapter will discuss the problem, the legal structures to combat doping and many of its implications.
