Abstract: That part of the Maltese law known as private international law does not in this day and age need any introduction. It is that part of the law which comes into play when the issue before the court affects some fact, event or transaction is so closely connected with a foreign system of law as to necessitate recourse to that system. It has consequently been defined as "the rules of volontarily chosen by a given state for the determination of cases having a foreign complexion.
