Abstract: In February of every year the Maltese are reminded of the shipwreck of the apostle Paul on their islands in the year 60 AD, an event memorialised in the Acts of the Apostles. (The day, February 10th, is a religious feast, a public holiday and a national day) The passage from the Acts bears a reference to the welcoming nature of the Maltese, and tlle warm hospitality shown to their accidental guests: "The islanders showed us unusual kindness". This passage was selected as the motto for the visit of Pope Francis to Malta in 2020.
