| Abstract: | The aims of the study were to examine whether women, who had their labours induced received information and explanations about this intervention, and to explore the women's views of induction of labour. The use of a qualitative method ensured that the research focused on the perspectives of the participants. The sample consisted of ten women in a maternity unit of a general hospital. A structured interview was used in this study. The data was analysed manually. From this small scale study it is clear that the role of the midwife at providing information and educating pregnant women is challenged. Also, this study indicated that there is considerable scope for improvement in communication, education and information-giving activities during the antenatal period, particularly in terms of better explanation of the reasons for individual intervention procedures. |
