Abstract: It is with the important role the European Economic Community is playing in Europe and the world at large in mind that this work has been prepared. Despite its internal crises, the Community is a force to be reckoned with particularly in the way it is expanding especially in the Mediterranean. The main area of interest here is the legal system of the Community. It is a system which combines traditional and new principles of law. I have mainly dwelt on what I consider to be the most important aspects of this system, namely the fundamental principles and rights, the social policy, the four freedoms, the agricultural policy, competition, and relations with third countries, including Malta.
